The writer of this article is able to push forward
the greater meaning behind the rattle inside that she had from her car was
because she made it relatable and gave examples of very life changing event
even though her event wasn’t as drastic as some of the ones she mentioned it
still hits home. This article is to help people who do have that rattle that no
one knows about and to give them courage to tell the people they care about.
This article can definitely apply to Holden because
within the article it says, “I hope
this moment of understanding and acknowledgement gives you some comfort. For
just a moment, you’re not that crazy person,” the author of this article is
allowing the comfort of the reader who is having that issue within their life
as we see that Holden is having that exact issue that our author is describing.
Holden in the book also says “I wasn’t too crazy about doing it, but I couldn’t
think of anything else descriptive. Besides, I sort of liked writing about it.”
We can see that he is opening himself up to us as the book progresses and he is
also showing how much hurt that he has been through because of his brother’s
death.
I like how you interpreted the meaning of this article, i personally didnt think of it as the author trying to get the readers to share their "rattle's"... I see how you mentioned the idea of comfort throughout this blog, do you feel that Holden felt a sense of comfort as he reminisced on his brother?
ReplyDeleteI liked your response it connected the article and Holden very well, I also feel that it connects to Holden in the part of the book where he describes the glove from his brother. your blog made me think of when Holden got off when he got off at Penn Station he says, "i couldn't think of anyone to call" he goes on to say how he could not call all of these people. Him doing this shows how he is thought full and thinks of every he is close to. It made me wounder what he truly feels inside about all of the people that he is around because it does not seem like he has a very optimistic view towards people.
ReplyDeleteWhat is Holden's rattle? You mention his brothers death, do you think that could be it?You could relate this back to how he broke all the windows in his garage, "I was only thirteen, and they were going to have me psychoanalyzed and all, because I broke all the windows in the garage." Later he goes on to say "my hand still hurts once in a while," this could be the reminder that makes this, Holden's rattle.

ReplyDeleteI appreciate this response because it made me look at the idea of the baseball mitt and the story we read in a different perspective. It made me consider more about the sharing of feelings then what I wrote about, like the quote you used from the story when it says “I hope this moment of understanding and acknowledgement gives you some comfort." It makes me wonder if Holden will actually share his feeling with other people in the book. Do you think that his feelings will be expressed progressively throughout the book?
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the way you compared the article and the Book, i can really see the point of view you are taking this from and think it is very well said. I feel like this connects with the baseball mitt very well
