What makes a good friend stay?
Sometimes friends come and go. Sometimes friends are here to stay. So, what makes a good friend stay? In Of Mice and Men we see George stay alongside of and take care of Lennie. Why? George obviously thinks on page 13 that, “When I think of a swell time I can have without you, I go nuts. I never get no peace.”(Steinbeck 13). George obviously wants to be on his own and wants to have a swell time as he puts it. Yet he stays. He stay because he is a good friend. Well what is a good friend? We all have gotten at one point frustrated with our friends. It’s normal. But that is what makes good friends. Even when times get tough and hostile between you they still always have your back, because that’s what friends are for. They have your back. That is what a good friend is, and that is why a good friends stay. Because they have your back no matter what.

Everything has a dark and a light side. That’s at least what we know from Claude McKay’s poem America. The dark side is presented within our authors poem with this quote,"Her vigor flows like tides into my blood, Giving me Strength erect against her hate,"(McKay). The strong diction within this line of text shows us the elaborate and the intensity of the poem. The word choice of hate helps expand on the idea of having a dark side to America. Evidently, everything also has a light side as expressed in this next line from the poem,"And see her might and granite wonders there, Beneath the touch of Time's unerring hand, Like priceless treasures sinking in the sand,"(McKay). The word choice for these lines by using might, unerring, and priceless show the light side for America. It's cheesy but everything has a dark side and a light side to it.
