Mrs. Parkinson
Everything has a dark and a light side. That’s at least what we know from Claude McKay’s poem America. The dark side is presented within our authors poem with this quote,"Her vigor flows like tides into my blood, Giving me Strength erect against her hate,"(McKay). The strong diction within this line of text shows us the elaborate and the intensity of the poem. The word choice of hate helps expand on the idea of having a dark side to America. Evidently, everything also has a light side as expressed in this next line from the poem,"And see her might and granite wonders there, Beneath the touch of Time's unerring hand, Like priceless treasures sinking in the sand,"(McKay). The word choice for these lines by using might, unerring, and priceless show the light side for America. It's cheesy but everything has a dark side and a light side to it.
