Holden within chapter 15 is waiting on his date and while waiting he strikes up a conversation with two nuns who are near him. One of the nuns drops her straw charity basket and Holden picks it up. He decides to give ten bucks towards the charity even though they are not collecting. They ask him if he can afford it and the book then tells us after they finally accept, "The both of them kept thanking me so much it was embarrassing." This was a powerful moment because we see that Holden doesn't deem himself worthy to get gratitude for his actions.
